The Telerivet Gateway app has several configurable settings.

To change the settings, open the Telerivet Gateway app on the Android phone and click Phone Settings. (You can also change some of these settings in your browser on Telerivet.com, by selecting your phone on the Routes page, then clicking Edit Settings.)

Call notifications

When the Call notifications setting is enabled, Telerivet's servers will be notified when your Android phone receives a call, and the call will appear as a message on the Messages page. This makes it possible to use Automated Services to define actions that occur when a call is received, such as sending an SMS reply.

SMS Rate Limit

By default, Android limits each app to sending no more than 30 SMS messages per 30 minutes, even though a typical phone can send over 500 SMS messages per 30 minutes.

In order to work around this limitation, Telerivet has developed SMS Expansion Packs. Each SMS Expansion Pack is a special Android app that works together with the main Telerivet app and allows Telerivet to send an additional 30 SMS messages per 30 minutes.

If you anticipate sending more than 30 SMS messages per 30 minutes, install as many SMS Expansion Packs as you expect to need. For more information, see Increasing Sending Rate Limit.

Quiet Hours

By default, Telerivet can send SMS messages at any time of day or night. However, you may want to avoid accidentally annoying your contacts by sending them an SMS message at night. When the Quiet Hours setting is enabled, Telerivet will avoid sending SMS messages at night, unless in reply to a recent incoming message. After a certain time at night, outgoing messages will be delayed until the next morning, at a time you specify.

Forward Sent Messages

By default, messages sent directly from the phone's Messaging app are not saved on Telerivet.com.

However, you may still want to use your Android phone to send SMS using the Messaging app, but also have these messages saved to Telerivet.com. In this case, you can enable the Forward sent messages setting.

Delivery Reports

If you enable the Delivery reports setting, Telerivet Gateway will request that the mobile network notify your phone when your outgoing messages are delivered (or when there is a delivery error). Delivered messages will show up with a check mark (✓) on Telerivet.com. However, some networks may charge extra for delivery reports, and they may also reduce the rate at which your phone can send and receive messages.

Ignored Phones

Sometimes, your Android phone may receive SMS messages that you don't care about, such as advertisements, or messages from particular contacts that you only want to receive on their phone instead of on Telerivet.com.

In this case, you can add phone numbers that the Telerivet Gateway app will ignore (so they will only be received on the phone). Since unwanted messages are often from shortcodes (e.g. "4444") or non-numeric senders (e.g. "VODACOM"), you can also ignore all of these types of messages at once.

Android App Security

If you are deploying Android phones with Telerivet Gateway in an untrusted environment, you can "lock" the Android app once you have configured it. This prevents anyone from changing the app settings on the phone (except to turn Telerivet Gateway on or off), and also hides Telerivet's online tools in the app. The Android app can be locked and unlocked only when logged in via Telerivet.com web interface.
